Happy Birthday, Honey Kennedy.

Happy Birthday to the real Honey Kennedy, Ellen Jacquelyn Kennedy McCabe. Today is my grandmother’s birthday. It has been years since she passed away, but not a day has gone by that I haven’t thought of her, for at least a few moments. I miss her discerning taste, her cultured perspective, and, especially, her feisty demeanor. It is hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that she has physically been out of my life for nearly as long as she was in it. She is where I get my tenacity, passion, romantic disposition, obsessive aesthetics and resourcefulness.

I miss her so much–she has been such a driving force, role model and monumental influence on the way I live my life. I honestly feel wildly lucky to have known her at all. Most of the time I wonder what she would think of the world today… and, frequently, what she would think of the woman I have become.

I love you, Grammy. I wish you were still here so I could show you just how much. ♥
