Dona Monroe at Frances May

When I was downtown today (helping to spread the good word about the Little Winter event), I popped by Portland boutique, Frances May. While chatting with lovely Caitlin, I saw the most beautiful inky midnight blue grey peeking out from one of the racks. It was the Fall 2010 Silk Velvet Boatneck Jumper from Brooklyn designer, Dona Monroe. So pretty. It really is the perfect color (I’ve been going cross-eyed poring over midnight blue velvet upholstery swatches to revive a couch) and, of course, because it is silk velvet, it is nearly impossible to capture how gorgeous it really is in person. I’ve made a lame attempt below.

Once home I decided to check out Dona’s website and found this beautiful Sandwashed Silk Cowl Neck dress in Paprika (also available in Black). I’ve been sort of obsessed with this rusty burnt sienna color lately (please see Masscob post). Holiday party dress season is just around the corner and Dona’s creations seem like they’d be flattering on a variety of shapes. My other new autumn favorites at FM were this dress, this dress and these shoes.

That dress caught my eye at Frances May too! I’m definitely going to have to try to find a vintage version somewhere, or get my blue velvet fix somehow!

Love the dress in the first photo, that particular shade of burnt orange is driving me crazy. Frances May is definitely tops on my list of shops to visit when I’m in Portland!

Such gorgeous dresses! I love that paprika color (and think it would look lovely on you). And those Dieppa Restrepo oxfords are perfect!

Anja: It’s so good! No kidding–if I found a vintage coat that color I might pass out.

Hannah: Yes! The burnt orange is another color that is magic right now!

    Mariah: Thanks!

Ronit: Thanks! I want to go back and try those shoes on… maybe tomorrow.
