The Powder Room

These dresses from the Miu Miu Spring 2011 Collection are pretty exciting. The length, the pleats, the shine, the prints and the colors are what fashion dreams are made of. I think the sleeves are beautiful as they are, but would also look lovely as caps and the sleeveless dresses in the collection are wonderful too.

One of my favorite aspects of the work surrounding this range is the series of collaborative short films, The Women’s Tales. Maybe even more than the film “The Powder Room” by Zoe Cassavetes itself, I love the little behind the scenes interview segments with Zoe, Audrey Marnay, Caroline De Maigret, Sophie Vlaming and Line Gost. It’s nice to hear their perspective on femininity and friendships between women. I love Zoe’s gushing over Miuccia Prada–so sweet.

Thinking about powder rooms always reminds me of George Cukor’s 1939 film, The Women, and, of course, Breakfast at Tiffany’s from Blake Edwards. I’m also reminded of the elegant lounge areas in department stores where I’d freshen up with my grandmother after a day of lunch and shopping. Watching her as she would organize her bags, make sure her bob was perfectly smooth and then reapply her “Cherries In the Snow” lipstick is part of who I am today. I love sharing similar moments with my friends–a little respite, a little primping, a little heart to heart.

oh I LOVE this. I have a special place in my heart for shoots that tell a story; this is such a fantastic expansion. Maybe it’s my theatre background, but I could do without runways if I could just spy on the models backstage. Perfect.

Reminds me so much of Dario Argento’s Suspiria. And those dresses… (♥‿♥)
