The Anniversary

As I mentioned before (see Nights of Cabiria post), I thought it might be nice if I share some of my film recommendations with you. This week I’d like to suggest the 1968 film, The Anniversary, starring the incomparable Bette Davis.

I like movies that make me feel something. Scenes in The Anniversary make you feel uncomfortable and give that weighty feeling of tension of the heaviest kind–family tension. That said, Bette Davis is, of course, thrilling to watch as she makes everyone squirm and hold their breath. She is a wicked sort of Auntie Mame nutter and she really seems to relish this role.

Let me know if you’ve seen it or if you end up watching it–I love to talk about movies! What have you all been watching lately?

If you don’t want to watch The Anniversary after this clip–you might be off your rocker! The whole movie seems to be available on YouTube in segments if you want to watch it that way. I think you should rent it, buy it or stream it for a better viewing though!

Completely different vibe, but I rewatched Clueless for the umpteenth time yesterday. I love that movie! Were the mid-90s really that long ago?

OMG! Bette Davis is my favorite, but I haven’t seen this yet. I must! “All About Eve” is my favorite work of hers.
