Pearl River

I go on and on about it, but I really want a trip to NY. Last August, I wrote this post about a particularly memorable visit to NY 11 years ago and the things I brought home with me. It seems I’ll be carrying them with me, mentally, FOREVER. Isn’t that strange how fairly commonplace objects can bring such strong associations to specific periods or even moments in your life?

I was unpacking my beloved enamel bowls from that trip and decided to repost some of the things I picked up at Pearl River that visit. It wasn’t a very happy spell for me (I’d been crushed by a boy), but the memories of that trip make me happy and thinking about replacing these objects makes me happy. Even though I’d had my heart pummeled, I had a flock of various supportive friends around me for 11 days. The good kind of friends who link arms with you to hold you up when you get that distant look in your eyes, make you laugh, guard the jukebox and make sure the gin keeps coming.

I guess I’m also feeling a little sentimental because my birthday is coming up this Sunday and I always reflect a lot the days leading up to it. I love that these very random, cheerful little things from a crazy NYC emporium are comforting and remind me that nothing is as bad as it seems when you have your flock.

I hope your package gets there in time! And also does not melt.

As a suburban NJ baby-troll, I learned about Pearl River from Seventeen Mag and have been obsessed ever since! I did not for one second ever expect a feature about it on someone’s blog..but glad you did. I had totally forgotten about it.
