Swanlike

In an effort to become more graceful (sorely needed!) and swanlike, I just ordered the Ballet Beautiful DVDs. They say you don’t need any ballet or other dance skills and you’re supposed to be able to attain “swan arms”–sign me up! I’m feelng hopeful because the exercises look fun and both Zooey Deschanel and Natalie Portman swear by it and they have grace and… swan-ish arms. I’m so curious–has anyone tried it before? Do you have the arms of a swan now? Have a wonderful week!

yes, i highly recommend ballet beautiful! i haven’t tried the one with swan arms yet, but the other one, classic 60-minute. i saw results after 4 times (in my legs). not only does it work (not a gimmick) but you listen to piano music instead of cheesy *dance* music so it’s relaxing in a way too.

i don’t know what you wear when you normally work out but i would stick to clothes that allow you to move, but i would avoid anything that would be too heavy or floppy ie yoga pants with flared legs (esp when doing all the leg stuff). i usually wear leggings and a fitted tank top.

    have fun!

I do the New York City Ballet one — also very good. Love the Erwin Blumenfeld pic, he’s the tops.

Okay, I TOTALLY want to hear if this works. I can only do exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise, because I am lazy and stubborn as a mule, and pretending to be a fancy ballerina sounds just distracting enough that I might not notice The Burn!!!!! updates, k?

Ooooh it works. And those swan arms are nothing to joke about. I can still hardly get through the whole sequence, but my arms/legs/bum/posture are more lithe than they have ever gotten with traditional exercises. I find the ballet butt workout has an almost immediate toning/lifting effect, so I like to do it before going out…

In all, it’s kind of tough but I quite love it.

PLEASE report your results. I could gain some grace. That’d be cool. :)

I’m too much of a wuss to get through them (seriously I was basically crying with pain.) I also have little hope that these peasant arms could ever ballet out. Maybe I’ll give it another shot now that summer’s around the corner, sigh.
