Happy Birthday, Honey Kennedy.

Today is my amazing grandmother’s birthday and I wish she was here to celebrate. It’s strange how as the years pass and you grow and your life changes in some ways or doesn’t change in others — you can continue to find new reasons to miss a loved one who has passed long ago. Lately I’ve just had so much I’ve wanted to talk to her about and I’ve really missed her in the role of matriarch in my fractured family. It always seemed like everyone would listen to her when they weren’t listening to each other and I’m appreciating the importance of that and new things about her and my grandfather almost daily as I get older.

I miss her supportive words and hearing thoughtful praise for the things I work on — it meant so much to me that she paid attention, recognized the hard work and gave me credit. I miss her laugh. I miss our long talks. I miss her haughty tone and single arched eyebrow when she was incensed. I miss looking at upholstery swatches and talking about thoughts on color and pattern with her. I miss watching her dance around the house when she put a favorite record on. I miss watching my grandfather fawn over her and chase her down the hall. I miss her clever mind and big heart. I miss my friend. I love you, Grammy. ♥

What wonderful memories and marvellous that she’s your blog’s namesake! My gran was my friend too, and she left us this March. I’m heartbroken but so grateful for all the years I was able to spend in her company.

This is so heartfelt. I know those moments where you are thinking so strongly of departed loved ones, no matter how much time has passed.
