Shop Visit: Amelia

Right at home in Northeast Portland’s Alberta Arts District, Amelia is the eponymous boutique founded by the delightful Amelia Blakeman. The beautiful and romantically decorated interior has a barely-there edge of darkness and intrigue, all of which combine to inspire thoughts of exotic travel and fabulous parties — just in case you need some shopping inspiration! In the event that a shopping break is needed, there’s even a comfy emerald velvet couch to relax on with adorable shop dog, Bambi.

Amelia exclusively stocks American made goods, so you can feel good about your purchases too! Local labels on hand include Quick Study’s modern cycling-friendly dresses, feminine styles from Clair Vintage Inspired and Sarah Bibb’s beautiful slips. A talented designer and skilled seamstress herself, Amelia offers free alterations and even designs and produces a house line on-site which she says is inspired by nostalgia and classic styles.

My current shop favorite (see below) is a lovely light-weight knit top in soft grey from local designer, Carolyn Hart. A great transitional garment, the sheer panels will keep things sexy and light during these dogs days of summer while it will do double duty as a chic layering piece come autumn. In addition to clothing, you’ll also find a seriously on point selection of jewelry, accessories, cosmetics and apothecary goods. In fact, Amelia is one of the few stockists in the state to carry pieces from amazing Brooklyn-based jewelry line LAB by Laura Busony, of which I’m a big fan. Fall pieces are pouring into the shop right now — Hubris, Volacious, Clair, Curator, Barrow, Cradle, Brehan Todd, LAB and lots more!

Bottom line, it’s sort of impossible to visit Amelia and not find something (or a few somethings!) you’ll feel like taking home with you.

Amelia is located here in Portland at 2230 NE Alberta St. and is open every day from 11AM–6PM. You can also follow Amelia on Facebook and @helloameliapdx on Instagram.
