Shop Visit: Red Sail

Since opening their doors in 2011, charming and homey boutique Red Sail has been a wonderful addition to Portland’s Northeast Alberta Street. Owner Stacy Maiano stocks an excellent selection of housewares, gifts, accessories and paper goods, including a host of items produced by local makers. I love walking into Red Sail and seeing the rainbow of glossy ceramics, illustrated tea towels, candy-hued Baggu bags and art prints on display. I stopped by recently to find out which items Stacy suggests for the upcoming season transition and here’s what she recommended…

The modern geometric vessels from Portland-based makers Caravan Pacific are available in white and a cheery robin’s egg blue that’s exclusive to Red Sail. Use it as a vase for flowers, a planter once the weather turns cold, a pen catchall or use it to store kitchen utensils. Any use will add a happy pop to your space!

I also love the handcrafted, and appropriately named, Alberta Table Lamp from Caravan Pacific. The design is modern and sophisticated and I think the ceramic base and wood accents compliment each other beautifully. I can’t help but imagine it’s warm glow as the days grow shorter and the dreary winter months set in. Red Sail has the Alberta table lamp in black with red oak, white with walnut and turquoise with cherry wood. I’m eyeing the white version for myself.

At the top of my own wish list are the cotton herringbone throws made in Maine by Brahms Mount. They’re so soft and pretty, I want to use them for picnics now and for cuddling into once the cold nights arrive. Late season campers and beach walkers would do well to throw one over their shoulders for some truly indulgent comfort. Now I just need to decide which one to get — there’s so many colors.

The laser engraved leather triangle clutch from local makers Sons & Daughters are another of Stacy’s current favorites. Red Sail has both the cognac and dark brown versions in stock. I love this design which is a perfect hybrid of modern and bohemian styles and would make an excellent back to school gift.

Stop by the Red Sail shop — they’re located in Portland at 1723 NE Alberta St. or you can shop Red Sail online. You can also follow Red Sail on Facebook and @shopredsail on Instagram.
