I’ve been working on a big post about my English roses for later this week, so I thought I’d share one of my favorite gardens, Sissinghurst Castle Garden in the Weald of Kent, in England at Sissinghurst village. I haven’t been yet, but it is on the top of the list along with riding bikes in the Cotswolds and cider and caramels in Brittany. For now, I have this lovely book to thumb through repeatedly. I really recommend Sissinghurst: Vita Sackville-West and the Creation of a Garden by the incomparable Sarah Raven. The book contains a lot of blurbs from the articles Vita wrote in the late 1940s and 1950s about her garden and her strong (and often hilarious) opinions about plants, flowers, interiors, and lifestyle. She led a very interesting and much whispered about life. If you love romantic castle gardens, history, and rule-breaking, clever women — you should read it! What a beautiful place.
