Shop Visit: Perican Bing
A little while back, I stopped by Portland’s lovely Perican Bing for a little visit. It’s such a clean, modern, and inviting addition the Sellwood/Westmoreland shopping district. We’re lucky to have such a gorgeous new boutique with amazing clothing, accessories, and home goods! Make your way over and you’ll find Perican Bing’s front door set back a few paces on SE Milwaukie — just beyond Fairlane Coffee (yet another new business to stop by!).
Perican Bing is owned by mother-daughter dream duo Dominga Ramirez and Lynne Nerenbaum. Dominga is the apparel buyer as well as head operations to the shop and brings with her 15 years experience in the fashion business. From marketing and promotions to sales, buying and merchandising, styling, and production. Lynne is the home goods buyer and she is in charge of visual merchandising. She has a fine arts and curatorial background that brings cheer to every corner of the shop.
I also love that the third generation of these women had has her part in this venture. At age 5, Dominga’s daughter, Ruby, named the imaginary woodpecker, who visited her nightly, “Perican Bing”. Since woodpeckers signify opportunity and discovery, all three ladies thought this would be a great name to give their family shop that celebrates wonder and reverie.
There are more items in the local Perican Bing retail space than online and you can peruse to find goods from Mary Meyer, Emerson Fry, Rachel Comey, Ali Golden, Just Female, Callahan, Yield Design Co., Tabbisocks, Demylee, La Causa, Baggu, Golem Designs, Camper General Store, Hansel from Basel, Norden Goods, Storm & Marie, OZMA, Seek & Swoon blankets, Spark & Pepper jewelry, and Marisa Mason Jewelry — just to name a few.
Some of my current favorites at Perican Bing are plaid wool cape, the red satin jumpsuit (hey Valentine!), the raw silk dress with pockets, the olive t-shirt dress, the blush crewneck sweater, the off-shoulder bodysuit, the rust slip dress, the everyday black pants, the black and platinum foldover clutch, and the braided leather keychains. Plus, the sale section is crazy good right now!
This is a great spot to look for yourself and for gifts for friends. Dominga also has years of experience styling A-list celebs for different events, so she will be a great asset if you want help putting together cute outfits from Perican Bing to add to your wardrobe. You can always call ahead to see if she’ll be working if you know you’re going to need assistance.
Perican Bing is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10AM to 6PM, Sunday 11AM to 5PM, and closed on Mondays. The shop is located at 1620 SE Claybourne Street Suite 106A here in beautiful Portland, Oregon. You can ring them at 503-206-6757 or firstname.lastname@example.org for stock information.
