The Colette Sewing Handbook Blog Tour!

Hello there. Today I am hosting a stop on The Colette Sewing Handbook Blog Tour for my dear friend, Sarai Mitnick, from Portland company, Colette Patterns. She wrote an amazing sewing book, The Colette Sewing Handbook, which comes with 5 incredibly versatile sewing patterns. If you are in Portland, make sure to go to the fun Colette Patterns launch party this Thursday, Nov. 17.

I chose two of these patterns to style up for you into a couple of my Dream Outfits. Find Sarai’s lovely new book —-> HERE.

First up is the cute “Meringue” scalloped skirt pattern…

Next I chose my personal favorite pattern from the book, the “Licorice” dress

Dream Outfit: At the Opera

It has been over three years since I’ve been on a vacation (luckily, moving to Portland kind of felt like a vacation for a while!) and I’ve been feeling incorrigible and very whiny lately. I want to have a fancy evening. I want to feel the electricity of a big city. I want get dolled up and drown in audio and visual beauty. An evening of rock and shoegazery would be nice, but them’s “sittin’ shoes”, lover. So, perhaps an evening of opera at the Met to see Donizetti’s Anna Bolena? Yes, please.

My mind is full of swimming pools, movie stars, black diamonds, tiny bubbles, gin joints and city lights. It probably won’t actually happen anytime soon, but I think I need a little glamor and a real vacation. And how!

See my Speckled Moth look and if you’d like–more Dream Outfits.

Makeup + Perfume: Josie Maran Lip & Cheek Stain in “Jive” (Found via this For Me, For You beauty post. It’s lovely!), DiorShow Mascara, OPI’s Paint My Moji Toes Red Nail Polish (terrible name, but fantastic color!), Navegar Eau de Toilette by L’Artisan (I just ran out and must replace! ♥)

Dream Outfit: Speckled Moth

I can’t believe it has been so long since I put together one of my Dream Outfits! I don’t know why–since I love making them so much. I’m still pretty obsessed with pieces in My Empire State outfit back in early December and my ode to Madonna from last September!

Maybe I’ll treat myself sometime and finally order the Sel Marin perfume. I ordered a sample from Aedes a while back (see my BIG perfume posts: Part 1 and Part 2) and I really love it. At least I already have the Ruby Woo lipstick–which has been a staple for many, many years. I have perfectly good glasses, but I have a feeling that these Barton Perreira Halston Glasses won’t be slipping my mind anytime soon!

Perhaps I could wear this daydream outfit tomorrow and treat lovely design unicorn, ♥ ♥ Anna Dorfman ♥ ♥, to fancy imaginary brunch in NY as thanks for making my website so amazingly beautiful! Sigh. I WISH!!!

What pretty things have you been daydreaming about lately?

DREAM OUTFIT: my empire state

Lately I’ve really been pining for a trip to New York. I’ve been daydreaming about going on my favorite long walks up to Hayden Planetarium, the Museum of Natural History and of course a few moments in front of The Dakota. I love visiting my good friends, but I also love the sort of anonymity you can have amidst all the hustle and bustle. When I’m in New York I tend to like to spend daytime on my own–walking for hours, taking photographs, listening to my headphones, going to museums, reading in bars or cafes and then meet up with my friends in the evening.

For as much as I love “stuff”, I’m a remarkably light packer. I like to have two nice bags to travel with to NY–one that is a larger purse that might fit my laptop if I choose to lug it around during the day and another that is a medium size duffle bag (the gorgeous Explorer bag below looks PERFECT) or a messenger bag. It’s nice to be able to take the train straight into the city and not be burdened by a suitcase along the way. I like to be able to travel light enough to go meet someone for drinks or dinner as soon as I get in and worry about dropping off my belongings later. I find that packing only as much as I can comfortably carry for a few hours after I arrive starts my whole trip off feeling uncomplicated.

Here are a few pretty things that I’ve been admiring for a while. This outfit fits the bill perfectly for arriving in NY and meeting up with a friend straight away. I could do five to seven days with this amount of packing space. I’m a little like Mary Poppins when I pack–there might even be a coat rack hiding in that duffle!
