I HEART PDX

honey-kennedy-beam-and-anchor-fall-01

Hello! I’m sorry that I’ve been MIA on the I HEART PDX posts with all my moving madness. This edition is pretty epic though, so maybe that will make up for it a little bit. When the leaves turn and pumpkins replace peaches — it’s officially the season of non-stop amazing events around town. HAVE FUN OUT THERE! I’m still consumed with getting our new home repaired, but maybe I’ll see you at a few of these — SO GOOD. xo Jen

♥ Fri, Oct 31. 5PM–9PM cemetery gates. BOO! Come to the Halloween Tour of Untimely Departures! This is such a fun annual event — I LOOOOVE it. Groups of guests are escorted on one of two candle-lit routes and meet ghosts at their graves who describe the unusual circumstances surrounding their untimely departures. Tours depart every eight minutes throughout the evening and are approximately 45 minutes long. Dress appropriately for the Portland October weather and be prepared for dark, uneven ground. Event proceeds are used for preservation efforts at Lone Fir Cemetery. There are mature topics, but I personally think teens would dig it. Lone Fir Cemetery entrance is on SE 26th between SE Stark and SE Morrison. MORE INFO + TICKETS.

Friday!

Happy Friday! We’ve come to the end of a short week. The week after the long Labor Day weekend always feels like a you’re in a slow-motion haze. I’ve been so busy that I’ve had a hard time decompressing at all, but I’m looking forward to sneaking in a little baking this weekend while we work on house stuff. I’m looking at tweaking this tomato tart recipe and thinking about making some blueberry and apple hand pies. I’ll post some instagram pics with my results… and some other fun things happening! Have a fun weekend, friends. xo Jen

Shop Visit: Amelia

honey-kennedy-amelia-pdx-01

Right at home in Northeast Portland’s Alberta Arts District, Amelia is the eponymous boutique founded by the delightful Amelia Blakeman. The beautiful and romantically decorated interior has a barely-there edge of darkness and intrigue, all of which combine to inspire thoughts of exotic travel and fabulous parties — just in case you need some shopping inspiration! In the event that a shopping break is needed, there’s even a comfy emerald velvet couch to relax on with adorable shop dog, Bambi.

Amelia exclusively stocks American made goods, so you can feel good about your purchases too! Local labels on hand include Quick Study’s modern cycling-friendly dresses, feminine styles from Clair Vintage Inspired and Sarah Bibb’s beautiful slips. A talented designer and skilled seamstress herself, Amelia offers free alterations and even designs and produces a house line on-site which she says is inspired by nostalgia and classic styles.

My current shop favorite (see below) is a lovely light-weight knit top in soft grey from local designer, Carolyn Hart. A great transitional garment, the sheer panels will keep things sexy and light during these dogs days of summer while it will do double duty as a chic layering piece come autumn. In addition to clothing, you’ll also find a seriously on point selection of jewelry, accessories, cosmetics and apothecary goods. In fact, Amelia is one of the few stockists in the state to carry pieces from amazing Brooklyn-based jewelry line LAB by Laura Busony, of which I’m a big fan. Fall pieces are pouring into the shop right now — Hubris, Volacious, Clair, Curator, Barrow, Cradle, Brehan Todd, LAB and lots more!

Bottom line, it’s sort of impossible to visit Amelia and not find something (or a few somethings!) you’ll feel like taking home with you.

Amelia is located here in Portland at 2230 NE Alberta St. and is open every day from 11AM–6PM. You can also follow Amelia on Facebook and @helloameliapdx on Instagram.
